Every company is looking to hire quality applicants. While not every Gen Z candidate is the same, some preferences have come to light regarding what most Gen Z applicants are looking for in their jobs. So how can you get the attention of the Gen Z group? 

Not only are you looking for quality Gen Z applicants, but you also want employees that will stay with your company for the long haul. Changes to your company culture may have to change to keep up with the rising generation. 

5 Tips for Getting Gen Z Applicants

You may assume some things about Gen Z candidates, but research shows that you can’t always guess what they prefer. So take a look at these tips for learning about Gen Z preferences.

  1. In-Person Interviews: You may guess that Gen Z is so digitally-minded that they prefer Zoom interviews. That is not the case. The majority of Gen Z applicants prefer an in-person interview where they can connect with the interviewer face-to-face. 

  1. Digital Breaks: Make sure that you offer reliable internet in your office and welcome digital breaks for employees to unwind during the day. When you provide breaks for employees to do what they love, they can get back to work refreshed and more productive. 

  1. Eco-Conscious Work Environment: It goes a long way to show that your company cares about the environment. Use recycling bins, eco-friendly products, and promote a green lifestyle. Set goals on saving water, recycling cans and bottles, and picking up trash around the office. You will set the example of a responsible office where candidates will want to take part in the community efforts. 

  1. Access to Work from Home: Gen Z wants the opportunity to work from wherever they want. The flexibility allowed when remote work is available is invaluable. They can work during extended vacations, work from home where they are comfortable, or travel with a partner on a business trip. If your company doesn’t offer it, the applicants will look elsewhere for the countless companies that do.  

  1. Company Recommendation from a Friend: Many Gen Z applicants love a personal referral from a friend or family member vouching for the quality of your company. When you have someone who talks up how great it is to work at your company, you will get high-quality candidates who trust the recommendation. 

When you understand what your desired applicants want in their job, you can offer some incentives. Create a job listing that shows that your company is flexible and modern. If a Gen Z candidate doesn’t see qualities in your company that they seek, they will move on without applying. 

Do not hesitate to ask for help when it comes to hiring strategies. In a time where filling positions is hard to come by, it is okay to make changes to what you have always offered.
