This position is responsible for providing communications support and counsel for the client’s refinery in Superior, Wisconsin.
The Senior Communications Advisor will play a key role in all areas of communications related to the rebuild, restart and operations of the Superior Refinery. Duties include the development and execution of communication plans and activities that ensure alignment with the client’s business priorities and values. This position also includes duties related to government relations, community investment, and community relations. They will be responsible for supporting business strategies, programs and events, utilizing a wide range of communication tools and vehicles.

Core Responsibilities

• Anticipate and mitigate potential risks to client's reputation; promote and enhance the company's reputation as a responsible integrated energy leader.
• Provide strategic and operational communications counsel to regional leadership and corporate communications.
• Support roll-out of strategic/business plans and various initiatives through creative communication channels.
• Consult with internal clients, including refinery management, to determine their communications needs and the best tactics to meet their objectives.
• Write and edit a variety of communications materials including plans, reports, presentations, news releases, announcements /articles, brochures, emails/memos, newsletters, change management materials, TV screens, speeches, and scripting for videos.
• Conduct primary and secondary research on relevant communications trends to support strategic and business planning processes.
• Provide counsel to the local leadership team on crisis management if required. Act as a member of the Crisis Response Team.
• Work with Community and Indigenous Affairs on local community engagement activities.
• Establish and maintain constructive relationships with key community leaders, local and regional government officials and local influencers to promote business priorities.

Experience
• 10 years of communications experience.
• Familiarity with the energy industry and region preferred.
• Emergency management experience is preferred.
• Government and community relations experience is an asset.
• Proven track record as a communications strategist and accomplished implementer of communication plans.
• Proven internal and external influencing skills at senior and executive management levels.
• Experience in communicating change, including collaboration with stakeholders.
• A confident presence and ability to clearly articulate strategies and concepts.

Education & Professional Designations
• A Bachelor’s degree in Public Relations, Communications or Journalism or related program is preferred or a relevant post-secondary designation.
