Summary 
Per Se Group has an outstanding contract to hire opportunity for a Power Plant Outage Manager with our premier energy client in California. This is a fully on-site position close to the Nevada/California border near Las Vegas. Our client is one of the most well-established power plants in the state with a long and successful history of electrical power generation. As Outage Manager, you will report directly to the General Manager, promoting productivity and teamwork in assigned areas. You will utilize your skills to demonstrate high level communication, timely decision making, and use of personal leadership skills to set outstanding standards of performance while providing the direction necessary to achieve that performance.
 

Responsibilities

  • Provides direct leadership for EH&S compliance for Projects and Outage activities.
  • Promotes and supports the development of technical, leadership, and business skills of employees to fulfill responsibilities in a competitive environment.
  • Provides regular feedback to employees on their performance to allow them to capitalize on their strengths and focus on opportunities for improvement.
  • Demonstrates behavior that encourages and rewards employee involvement, innovative thinking, adaptation to change, responsible risk taking, customer focus, and continuous improvement.
  • Supports and emphasizes importance of safety and environmental programs and ensures regulatory compliance during day-to-day operations.
  • Works with Planning and Scheduling to implement outage and work management best practices derived from the company Fleet.
  • Ensures work management reports are established and provided to Plant Lead Team.
  • Ensures assignment of maintenance analysis process and monitors for effectiveness in a manner that supports outage planning and execution.
  • Ensures all company resources are utilized in a cost-effective manner, estimates resource requirements, monitors expenditures, and reports on performance of assigned area.
  • Manage multiple consecutive outages, including forced, while ensuring future outage planning is in development in addition to ensuring effective daily/routine planning and scheduling is occurring.
  • Interfaces with Operations to determine outage and project priorities. Tracks the development of work plans, schedules, and cost for all projects and outages or other events as required
  • Ensures Asset Integrity, Strategic Maintenance and MOC is incorporated into all outage and project planning.
  • Holds recurring Outage and Project meetings with Plant Personnel and all stakeholders to ensure effective communication.
  • Ensures workforce requirements with maintenance crafts, operations, and contractors are coordinated to optimize resource utilization.
  • Monitor outage and project performance. Provides regular reports on KPIs to management. Maintains Performance database and produces performance reports.
  • Schedules lessons learned meetings after Inspection Outages and tracks/monitors actions items to completion. Ensures past lessons learned are reviewed in preparation for upcoming outages. Works with other company plants on sharing of Project/Outage Best Practices.

Preferred Skills and Expertise

  • Minimum of 6 years of experience in a similar role within a power plant and demonstrated experience with successful outages.
  • Requires operation of a motor vehicle, valid State Driver’s License.
  • Work overtime and non-standard working hours as required. Requires occasional travel outside service area.
  • Requires operation of a personal computer.
  • High school diploma or GED required.
  • Knowledge of SAP work orders required.
  • Knowledge of PowerSAM or similar Project Development Database with clear understanding of project economic justifications.
  • Knowledge of Planning / Scheduling / Resource Loading.
  • Knowledge of SAP financial and operations cost reports. Knowledge of scheduling software tools, scheduling, and CMMS systems e.g., SAP, MS Project, Primavera, or P6.
  • The position is a DOT PHMSA covered position and requires the successful candidate to pass a pre-employment DOT drug screen and drug and alcohol testing background check. Once hired will be a participant in the company DOT Program.
  • Bachelor’s degree in engineering, business, or related degree.
  • Experience managing power plant employees and contractors strongly preferred.
  • Strong scheduling experience preferred with PMP Certificate or Equivalent.
  • Understands the processes, systems, assets, resources, key personnel, and business functions of the department.
  • Knowledge of power plant systems and operations; and comprehensive knowledge in the area of responsibility.
  • Ability to effectively communicate (verbal and written) at all levels of the organization. Ability to establish and maintain a positive and professional working relationships.
  • Knowledge of applicable safety and environmental regulations.
  • Uses and maintains technical and professional knowledge, shares that knowledge with others, and recognizes/applies new technology in a cost-effective manner.
  • Obtains and applies knowledge of competitive business practices in daily work activities and decision making.
  • Seeks and understands the customer/client’s needs and focuses on meeting and exceeding their expectations.
  • Willing to do whatever it takes to get the job done (within reasonable limits and at no Safety/Environmental Risk).
  • Anticipates and accepts changes in the organization and adapts to meet the new requirements.
  • Requires wearing personal protective safety equipment (respirators, safety glasses, hard hat, appropriate footwear, ear plugs, etc.).
  • Required to work around rotating and energized equipment, hazardous materials, and chemicals.

The pay range for this role is $80-$90/hr. This is not a guarantee of compensation or salary, as final offer amount may vary based on factors including but not limited to experience and geographic location. (The specific programs and options available to an employee may vary depending on date of hire and schedule type).
