Some commissioning jobs have you testing equipment all day. This one puts you in the middle of getting an entire grid-side substation ready for first energization.
If you’re the person everyone looks to when it’s time to commission, troubleshoot, coordinate, and safely bring systems online, you’ll have the opportunity to lead one of the most critical phases of a gas peaker project from the field.
What you’ll be doing You’ll lead commissioning and testing activities for the grid-side substation scope on a major power generation project. You’ll coordinate between construction, engineering, protection & controls, operations, and the utility to keep startup moving safely and on schedule.
- Lead commissioning activities for the HV substation scope.
- Direct testing of GSU transformers, breakers, switchgear, relays, and protection & control systems.
- Plan and lead system energization activities.
- Coordinate field execution with multiple project teams.
- Review testing packages and turnover documentation.
- Troubleshoot field issues during commissioning and startup.
- Help deliver a successful turnover to the client.
What you get This is a contract opportunity running through the end of 2026 on a gas peaker project in Wheatfield, Indiana. Pay is $90–100/hour plus $143/day per diem. The schedule starts at 5x10s in September and ramps to 6x10s from October through December, giving you the chance to stay engaged through one of the most important phases of the project.
Who you are You’re the person others trust when the stakes are high. You have deep utility substation commissioning experience, understand HV equipment, relay testing, protection & controls, GSU transformers, and energization planning, and you’ve led field teams through startup before. You know how to keep people aligned while solving problems safely in the field.
