PV & BESS Commissioning Manager | “Is this plant actually ready to energize?”

You know the difference between a project that looks ready and one that’s actually ready to commission.

In this role, you’ll be the person connecting construction, engineering, EPCs, OEMs, commissioning providers, and site teams – making sure the gaps get found before they become startup problems.

What you’ll do

• Lead commissioning activities across utility-scale solar PV, standalone BESS, and hybrid PV+BESS projects in Texas.
• Drive commissioning readiness from construction completion and pre-checks through energization, startup, testing, and turnover.
• Review commissioning plans, procedures, drawings, test packages, and vendor requirements – then challenge anything that doesn’t make sense.
• Coordinate EPCs, OEMs, commissioning providers, utilities, and other technical teams when the schedule gets tight.
• Oversee integration of SCADA, PPC, EMS, inverters, BESS controls, metering, communications, and plant systems.
• Support FAT, SAT, functional and integration testing, performance testing, and commercial-operation readiness.
• Track the schedule, identify what’s going to hold up startup, and get the right people moving before it becomes a milestone problem.

What you get

This is a $75-$85/hour contract with potential to convert to direct hire. The normal schedule is 7-4, 40 hours/week, with Houston preferred but other locations considered.

You’re not signing up to live permanently at a project site. You’ll travel when the project needs you – especially around pre-commissioning and active startup – while keeping the broader execution and coordination work moving from Houston or your home location.

Who you are

You’ve been through the messy middle where construction hands a project to commissioning and someone has to make sure everything is actually ready. You understand utility-scale PV and/or BESS, know your way around plant controls and communications, and can talk shop with engineers, electricians, EPCs, OEMs, and project leadership.

You don’t need an engineering degree. You do need the field experience and technical judgment to ask the uncomfortable question before it becomes a commissioning delay.
