Job Description The Field BESS Engineer plays a key role in the technical planning, negotiation, and oversight of Battery Energy Storage Systems (BESS) in utility-scale projects. This position demands expertise in OEM and EPC technical management and advanced knowledge in large-scale energy storage project management during critical phases. The engineer will be responsible for coordinating the Division of Responsibility (DoR), supervising commissioning activities, and ensuring contractual specifications are met effectively.

 

Key Responsibilities

1. Technical Pre-Contract Negotiation

a. Support tender phase negotiations with OEM and EPC vendors, assessing technical solutions and ensuring project requirements translate into feasible, scalable proposals.

2. Division of Responsibility Coordination and Supervision

a. Manage and oversee DoR during the contract phase, ensuring that roles and responsibilities between OEM and EPC are well-defined to prevent conflicts and delays.

3. Commissioning Oversight

a. Lead on-site activities, including the installation, integration, and commissioning of the BESS, ensuring all processes adhere to quality and safety standards throughout each project phase.

4. Troubleshooting and Issue Resolution

a. Diagnose and resolve hardware and software issues, working closely with engineering and operational teams to maintain system efficiency and safety.

5. Documentation and Technical Reporting

a. Generate detailed reports on progress, incidents, and applied solutions during project execution, ensuring traceability of technical activities and compliance with established KPIs.

6. Post-Commissioning Maintenance and Support

a. Conduct periodic performance audits, identify improvement areas, and lead preventive and corrective maintenance activities for the BESS system.

 

Qualifications and Skills

· Education

o Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Energy, or a related field.

· Experience

o 3-5 years in energy storage projects, including commissioning and technical support for BESS.

· Technical Knowledge

o Expertise in utility-scale storage systems, applicable regulations, and experience with vendor management.

· Soft Skills

o Excellent communication and negotiation skills, with the ability to work under pressure in field settings with flexible hours.

· Travel Availability

o Flexibility to travel to various project sites as required for commissioning and maintenance activities.
